Limitless
I just watched the movie Limitless. There is a line in the movie where Eddie the central character after taking a miracle brain enlightenment pill that gives him full access to his entire intellect says, “I was blind and now I see.” No doubt this was just a cliche or was it unintentional irony. I mean does the Holy Spirit make you smarter and even give powers of perceptive intuition or what the ancients called prophesy? While the context of this movie in our culture today is very believable, a pill that makes you smarter, many would scoff at the idea of a spiritual presents that could do much the same. Consider this, Moses after coming to know God wrote the first five books of the Old Testament that has stood as the foundation of a faith in God for over 5,000 years. Impressive. David, having no doubt knowledge of the Holy Spirit recorded the majority of Psalms and spoke prophetically of the coming Messiah. Psalms itself a collection of praises, song, wisdom and introspection that is unrivaled in beauty though out history by any other book. Impressive. And, there are the disciples, most of whom were ordinary men of ordinary means, who all did extraordinary things that have stood as a foundation for the Church that has lived against all odds and is still thriving to this day. Impressive. And then there is Jesus, himself the flesh version of the Holy Spirit, having all knowledge and all wisdom that taught us how to live, love and know God as our heavenly Father. Who healed the sick and raised Lazarus and himself from the dead. Impressive. Yes, I know that there is unmatched knowledge and wisdom that comes from an intimate relationship with Christ, as the Holy Spirit reveals knowledge that is from God to us through faith. However, there is no magic pill effect to this. It takes for most time to develop trust and faith in God. But when it comes it is amazing, it is unexplainable to many except those the have experienced it understand what is really meant by the line, “I was blind but now I see.”
“Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, if a person continues asking, that person will receive. If a person continues looking, that person will find. And if a person continues knocking, the door will open for that person.” Matthew 7:7-8
